It is now a whole year since SENSES began their Tuesday sessions for preschool children with additional needs and their families.
Since last February, they have welcomed more and more families and now also run a weekly coffee morning for parents and carers each Monday morning, during term time. These are for any parent or carer of a child with additional needs, not just preschool.
All sessions are free of charge and there is no need to book a place or have a referral. Siblings are also welcome.
Sessions include: free-play, multi-sensory experiences, planned constructive activities, story sacks and songs, communal drink and snack time and parent-to-parent support.
Walk and Talk scheme
The SENSES Walk and Talk service is a one-to-one meeting between Corrie the Project Manager, and one family at a time, with the aim of chatting generally or about any specific support needed. This was set up during the pandemic and can now take place in the form of a walk, using a room at Westway Open Arms, or as a cafe meet-up. Assistance with DLA forms can also be provided. Please contact Corrie via the SENSES website or Facebook DM if this is a way you feel SENSES could support you and your family.
Music Therapy
SENSES have received funding from NYCC to carry out 12 monthly sessions of music therapy at their Eastfield group, and the same from Scarborough Lions for their Scarborough group! These wonderful sessions are provided by the North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre. Please visit the SENSES Facebook page for more information and to see when their next session will take place.
Term time sessions: TUESDAYS from 10-12 at Westway Open Arms, Eastfield.
SENSES also run a further session on FRIDAYS from 10-12 at The Oasis Family Centre, Scarborough.
