What’s On

Westway Open Arms is open Monday – Thursday from 9.30am – 2.30pm. We have a number of weekly activities and new ones are constantly evolving.

SENSES (a toddler group for children with additional needs), IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Service), and the North Yorkshire Refugee Council have all joined the family at Westway.

Food Bank
Monday to Thursday 10am – 12 noon

Food Bank donations  10am – 2.30pm 

The food bank is open Monday – Thursday 10am – 12 noon. Clients are advised to call before attending. All clients see a Client Support worker (10am – 12 noon), to develop a plan of support ensuring that the client is signposted to the correct services externally or within Westway Open Arms.

Client Support
Monday – Thursday, 10am – 12 noon

All client support workers are volunteers, they come to us with a variety of skills and experience. They are all trained in safeguarding, boundaries and diversity, and are all DBS checked. Initial support is given when requesting food.  During this conversation, any other issues the client may be facing will be signposted to the appropriate organisation for support. 

Debt Management
Thursdays – appointment required

This service is provided by volunteers on Thursdays by appointment,  for people that ask for help or are referred by other agencies. It is a free and confidential service. It is provided under the supervision of Rainbow Money who are based at The Rainbow Centre in Scarborough. Rainbow Money are supported by Community Money Advice (CMA). 

Lunch Club
Wednesday 12 noon

Wednesday is Lunch Club day. It is for people experiencing loneliness and isolation.  This could be a person living on their own or a parent, when all their children are in school. Our chef prepares an amazing two course meal using fresh ingredients. To ensure a place we advise clients to ring a few days in advance.  

Craft Club and Gardening Club
Thursday 10am – 12 noon

Thursday morning is craft and gardening.  The groups are very flexible.  There is a choice of crafts; knitting, sewing,  glass painting, drawing, colouring, the list is endless. The gardening group plant in pots and raised beds. Some of the produce is used for lunch club when available. You can switch between both groups. All resources are free. Refreshments are available.

Slow Cooker Lessons

Three times a year we run a course of slow cooker lessons. The course is for 10 weeks. The recipes are based on the food that people receive in a food parcel. All equipment and ingredients are provided free of charge.

Guitar Lessons
Thursday 12.45pm for one hour

Instruments may be provided.

Soup and Social 
Tuesday 1pm – 3pm

All welcome to enjoy spending time socialising in a warm and friendly space. Includes warming soup, sandwich or toasties. Board games, jigsaws, books provided.

Chair Yoga
Wednesday 9am – 10am term time only

A warm, welcoming group for adults who would like some time to relax doing gentle exercise together.
